This event will be held at the iconic venue Catch One, located at 4067 West Pico Boulevard, Los Angeles, with a very limited number of tickets available. Catch One, previously named Jewel’s Catch One,
was the longest-running black gay dance bar in Los Angeles, established in 1973 by Jewel Thais-Williams. As a lesbian person of color in 1970s America, trying to rent the building, Jewel was prohibited
because “state law barred women from bartending unless they owned the venue,”(“Jewel’s Catch One”) according to the Los Angeles Conservancy. In 2015, Jewel planned to shut down the bar, but it was purchased
by new owners and reopened under the name “Union” for a short period before changing its name to Catch One, as it’s called today. Catch One remains a center for LGBTQ parties, featuring multiple rooms and
stages, one of which is named the Jewel’s Room in homage to the original owner.
